Impotence

Impotence

The term impotence refers to a man's inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for satisfactory penetration.

While impotence is commonly used, healthcare professionals prefer the term erectile dysfunction (ED) , as it describes the condition more accurately and without judgement.

Causes can be physical, psychological, or related to lifestyle. Common examples include:

  • Physical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease;
  • Psychological factors like stress and anxiety
  • Lifestyle choices such as heavy alcohol use.

It is a common and treatable condition.
