Impotence
Impotence
Impotence, also called erectile dysfunction (ED): is the inability to achieve or maintain an erection.
The term impotence refers to a man’s inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for satisfactory penetration.
While impotence is commonly used, healthcare professionals prefer the term erectile dysfunction (ED), as it describes the condition more accurately and without judgement.
Causes can be physical, psychological, or related to lifestyle. Common examples include:
- Physical conditions such as diabetes or heart disease;
- Psychological factors like stress and anxiety
- Lifestyle choices such as heavy alcohol use.
It is a common and treatable condition.
